Helping those facing Homelessness

About

Gateway is a local charity.  We help those facing homelessness or who are homeless in Sidmouth and surrounding areas.  We work together with our clients and a range of agencies to access support, accommodation and other services.

How we help
Sidmouth and Sid Valley 2.jpg
Gateway will offer support to anyone in Sidmouth and surrounding areas who find themselves homeless or living in a vulnerable situation.

We have helped people who have lost their homes because of domestic violence, mental health, disability and debt. We have helped those who are sofa-hopping or sleeping rough.

Volunteers lie at the heart of our charity. They have extensive experience working with clients with complex needs.  They provide a listening ear and can signpost those who need it towards housing support, local agencies and other practical solutions.  This approach has proven to be effective for those in crisis, who may not know what help is available.

Gateway also maintains contact with those living rough on the streets.  We offer support and guidance  and have affected real change to those facing immense challenges.

How you can help us.

In society, our lives are all connected. What hurts one of us hurts all of us meaning that the knock-on impacts of homelessness can be felt throughout our communities.

None of us want to live in a society where homelessness exists – where people are forced onto friends' sofas night after night, in unsuitable temporary accommodation where a family is crammed into one room or people are left with no option but to sleep on our streets or on public transport. The harm homelessness causes to an individual is significant – but this harm also ripples across society.
